This year at Tweak we are hosting a student show case. The showcase will be exhibited alongside the main Tweak exhibition at the Church Gallery Space in Limerick School of Art and Design.

Three students were selected to represent alternative perspectives and approaches to interative media

conor

Conor Higgins University of Limerick

Conor Higgins is currently a 4th year student of Music, Media and Performance Technology in the University of Limerick. His main interests lie within audio-visual creation and manipulation using Max/MSP/Jitter and Pure Data. His work has been exhibited in Dublin's science gallery as well as being commissioned to design a digital prototype which was exhibited at the 2008 TCT conference (Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics). His future work is focused on the use of bio-sensors for the control and creation of audio/visual material.

The project he has created for this showcase is an interactive piece much like a theremin, which incorporates proximity and motion sensors to allow the user to control various aspects of an aural event. This piece uses Max/MSP/Jitter for all audio processing and manipulation and arduino boards to handle all interfacing between the sensors and Max.

Stephen Neary Limerick School of Art & Design

Stephen Neary recently graduated with a First Class Honours from Limerick School of Art and Design. He has participated and exhibited in several undergraduate shows. He is currently working as part of an emerging artist collective which aims to promote Sculpture in Limerick City.

In his work he is interested in found and discarded rural materials which he then transforms into new and unfamiliar objects. These objects suggest a level of possible functionality and require manual manipulation and involvement. The low-tech functions of these objects and the accompanying audio passages are suggestive and reference the human body. Through visceral and physical interaction with the work the viewer is encouraged to explore and experience these objects in a much more immediate and intimate way.

Ciaran Woods Tralee IT

Ciaran is a music and multimedia enthusiast from Ballylongford, Co.
Kerry. He has just completed a B.A. (Hons.) in Interactive Multimedia
at the Institute of Technology Tralee and will begin a Masters in
Music Technology at the University of Limerick in September.
Ciaran previously worked at Microsystems in Chicago, IL. He worked in
the IT department and was responsible for producing online content
such as web tutorial videos and other interactive web content.

His final year thesis at the Institute of Technology Tralee focused on
the theory of embodied music cognition with special emphasis on guitar
playing. He presented his findings by building an audio visual effects
unit using Max/Msp/Jitter where the guitar movements applied the
effects instead of traditional methods.
