openFrameworks
is a new open source, cross platform, C++ library to make programming for students accessible and easy. In it, the developers wrap several different libraries like opengl for graphics, quicktime for movie playing and capturing, and free type for font rendering into a convenient package creating a simple, intuitive framework for creating projects using C++.

This workshop is led by one of the founders of OpenFrameWorks: Arturo Castro. Along with Pierre Proske, he will concentrate on computer vision and facial expression. Castro & Proske will offer a mixture of practical advice related to the world of computer graphics and computer vision with a focus on general computer vision concepts and then move onto facial expression recognition with OF.

This is the first time a workshop on the topic of OpenFrameWorks will be held in Ireland, offering an exclusive opportunity for Irish students to engage directly with one of the founders of the open source platform.

This workshop has more of an academic slant and aims to explore issues surrounding new forms of technology design and development that reflect the increasing role that end-users have in dealing with novel technologies.

Four speakers from different fields - Rob Van Kranenburg (Council), Tobie Kerridge (Goldsmiths), and John McCarthy (UCC) come together for a very unique workshop.

The proposed workshop will explore challenges related to the conceptual framework for the design of interactive systems, the changing role of the designer/developer, the emergence of new technical platforms for open-ended user participation. The discussion at the workshop will contribute to the ongoing debate on these topics in the Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction and Software Development communities.

If you like robots, motors and making things move this is the workshop for you. Brock Craft, John Nussey and Ryan Jordan take over the church for a crash course in Arduino - an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software.

The workshop will introduce participants to the basics of Pure Data and Arduino demonstrating their possibilities and potentials for use in live performance, robotics and motors. The participants will learn how to communicate between pure data and Arduino and will get to use and make their own sensors, patches and tools.
